Joel Pomerantz was born in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York, February 2nd, 1952, to the late Jack Pomerantz and Mollie Bart-Pomerantz. Joel grew up in East New York, February 2nd Brooklyn and where his father owned a bakery. Joel and his family eventually moved to Canarsie, where he would come to graduate from Canarsie High. After graduation Joel enlisted in the Army Reserves and worked in retail furniture until working as a bialy baker. Then in 1991 Joel met the love of his life Audrey Culp and by 1994 they were married. After being married, Joel went to medical billing school and got his certificate and began working for St Mary’s Hospital in Bayside. In 2001, the Pomerantz’s moved from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn to Franklin Park, New Jersey, where he continued to work for Franklin Park Nursing Home and McKesson Pharmaceuticals.

Joel was an animal lover as seen through his adoration of his dogs Sammy, Bugzee, and Holly. This love extended beyond the furry family that lived at home but also to the wildlife that called his neighborhood home. Joel was an avid armchair naturalist that used to feed and keep water for wildlife throughout the year. He would Identify the various birds that would visit his backyard, one of which he was especially fond of was the red-bellied woodpecker. He also loved to watch the deer that would visit the yard and he enjoyed watching the fawns grow through the season.

While Joel was a very opinionated person, he had a heart of gold. Joel was an important person in the cornerstones of his family’s lives, where he served to support and mentor nieces and nephews by providing opportunities for inspiration and education, offering advice, or just listening to their matters. Joel was also an excellent cook, storyteller, and had a great laugh.

Joel was preceded in death by his father Jack Pomerantz, his mother Mollie Pomerantz, his brother Sheldon Pomerantz. He is survived by his devoted wife Audrey Pomerantz.
